Job Purpose:
The position is responsible for coordinating WEAC’s state-wide efforts (working through UniServs and local associations) to promote and organize local initiatives leading to high quality professional development (for teachers and education support professionals), improved professional conditions of employment, and school improvement; developing and delivering education and awareness programs for WEAC/UniServ professional staff and local leaders around professional development and school improvement strategies; providing technical consultation to WEAC and UniServ staff related to professional development, school improvement strategies, teacher accountability, and alternative compensation models; conducting applied research and literature review; working with various organizations outside of WEAC; and performing other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Results:
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
1.
A Master’s degree or higher in education or an education related field.
2.
Recent and substantial teaching experience in public education.
3.
Demonstrated knowledge and teaching excellence in current educational practices in the areas of student learning, curriculum,
instruction, assessment, and staff development.
4.
Demonstrated ability to design, write and produce professional development materials appropriate for K-12 professional staff.
5.
Knowledge of educational research as it relates to basic methodology, data collection and analysis and exporting of results.|
6.
Knowledge of current educational research in areas related to improving teacher preparation and development and improving student achievement.
7.
Demonstrated ability to create and conduct popular education workshops designed for union members including the creation of materials and resources supporting such workshops.
8.
Direct union experience in union organizing, collective bargaining, and/or union advocacy around school quality issues is highly desirable.
9.
Demonstrated ability to organize union members around key union issues.
10. Effective written and oral communications.
11. Program coordination experience.
12. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
13. Understanding of issues related to teacher preparation and development, certification and licensing and teacher evaluation.
14. Ability to promote and adhere to the policies and procedures adopted by the WEAC Board of Directors and Representative Assembly.
15. Perform all duties in a professional and competent manner.
16. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of individual member(s) concerns in a professional and confidential manner.
17. Ability to travel and work nights, weekends, and long hours.
Preferred qualifications:
1
. Teacher mentor, coaching or teacher leader experience
2
. National Board Certification or Master Educator License
3
. Action research experience
4
. Local union leader experience and an understanding of labor issues generally
5
. Awareness of professional development issues for education support professionals
6
. Experience in working in a large organization/state agency
7
. An understanding of the politics of education
Salary and Fringe Benefits: The salary range for this position is $81,524 to $111,686 depending upon qualifications (new hires are typically not placed higher than the mid point of the salary range $96,604).
