Speakers: Charlotte Flowers, National Vice President, American Federation of Government Employees (NFGE) and Ted Jennings, Senior National Representative, American Federation of Government Employees (NFGE)
Topic: Collective Bargaining for Federal Workers: A Disappearing Right?
The recently passed Homeland Security Act gave the executive branch the discretionary authority to determine whether or not federal employees could engage in collective bargaining. The Transportation Security agency has determined that airport screeners will not have collective bargaining rights. Other departments in the agency may follow suit. In addition, the administration is proposing to contract out hundreds of thousands of federal jobs. Charlotte Flowers and Ted Stevens have extensive experience as federal employees and union representatives. They will discuss how these actions are affecting federal workers and the public.
