management, labor, government, attorneys and academicians bring a variety
of perspectives to the group, encouraging lively discussion of current
events in employee and industrial relations. The chapter publishes a

The 70-member chapter holds periodic dinner meetings at the Crowne Plaza
hotel on West Sixth Street, and luncheons at Xavier University's Cintas
Center, which begin with a social hour. The program is then presented
on a timely topic, by a knowledgeable and respected speaker who is always
pleased to engage in a question-and-answer dialogue afterward. The two-day April conference, co-sponsored by the Detroit and Northeast
(Cleveland) Chapters featured the topic “The Troubled Employee”. The
conference brought experienced professionals together to share their
experiences - successes as well as failures, and participants exchanged
ideas about hands-on solutions.
Keynote
speakers were John Kagel, President, National Academy of Arbitrators, who
discussed "One Arbitrator's View on Troubled Employees”, and John F. Burton, Jr.,
President-Elect IRRA, who discussed “Legal Issues and Troubled
Employees”. The January 2002 meeting was held
at the Vernon Manor, 11:30 a.m.-registration, noon-Lunch Program. The topic
of discussion will be Privatizing Justice, with speaker Paul Tobias,
Managing Partner, Tobias, Kraus & Torchia. Members are listed in the
annual Membership Directory, to facilitate
further contacts after the
meetings.
Dues are $25 regular and $150 organizational. Affiliated with National IRRA 1967. |

The 200-member chapter meets four times per year. Four
local meetings are held each year, with guest speakers from the industrial
relations community as well as national figures in labor relations.
These meetings provide useful information concerning contemporary topics
and a relaxed forum for labor, management and neutrals to exchange ideas,
discuss issues and further business relationships. Meetings are held
in the evenings and notices are mailed in advance by the Labor-Management
Relations Center. The
April 2002 meeting topic was Union Construction Industry Partnership.
The speaker was Loree Soggs, Executive Secretary of the Cleveland Building
and Construction Trades Council. In June
2002 the chapter will hold its Annual Spring Meeting luncheon at Thistledown
Race Course. During the luncheon they will honor Ken Evans of FMCS on his
retirement. The chapter will also have their annual election of officers.
Membership dues are $30 regular, $15 students, $100 organizational (4 members). Affiliated with National IRRA 1972. |
